2003-06-14 - 8:39 a.m. Welcome to the Georgia Rainforest! At least that is what it feels like here. We have had downpour after downpour for the last 4 days or so and the forcast is for more of the same for the next few days. The sweet corn is hanging in there but now that it is full height and the ears are starting to fill it is susceptible to lodging. Now lodging dosen't mean it's going to move into a log cabin, it means falling down. Once the ground is very wet and soft like it is now if we get a violent storm come through with a lot of wind it can go down. Sometimes it will straighten up after lodging but sometimes not. I've pulled corn crawling around more than once but I sure don't look forward to it. This new variety of corn I'm growing now seems more resistant to lodging than others I've grown but how much more of this it can take I'll just have to wait and see.
