2003-08-07 - 8:28 a.m. It's been quite a while since my last entry. We've been so busy picking stuff there's hardly a spare moment to rest. As soon as the plants are dry enough we go to picking. Most of the morning is taken up picking cucumbers, okra, apples, squash, peppers and beans. We usually get done picking by 11:00 or so. Sue has to tend to the horses and Liz takes care of her dogs and by the time we're all through it's lunch time. After lunch we take care of any non-picking jobs such as mowing, weeding, fence repair, weed eating, etc. By this time it's usually supper time. After supper we pick tomatoes for the next day. Tomatoes take the longest for us to pick and I like for the plants to be good and dry so we pick them late in the evening around 7:00 or so. It usually takes an hour or so to pick and sort the tomatoes then we get everything put up for the night and if we're lucky we get in just in time to watch the last half of a Braves game. After a good nights rest we wake up to start it all over again. I heard someone say one time that daylight savings time was started for farmers but I don't buy it. Daylight to dark work is just that, no matter what time your watch says it is. Well, the plants are drying so I'd better get to picking.
