2003-09-20 - 9:15 p.m. What a difference a month can make. After rain all summer and everything suffering from rots now we're in a drought here. We have not had any decent rain for close to 5 weeks. The pastures are turning brown and we've been watering the muscadines as much as possible to keep them from shedding fruit from stress. We were hoping we wouldn't have to drag out the hoses this year but it just didn't happen. The dry weather has been good for the figs and the muscadines have been very sweet this year due to the dry weather. Too much rain can cause the muscadines to split and rot so I guess I shouldn't complain. We are in the thick of the muscadine season and I sure do enjoy them. I don't think I would ever tire of eating them. Well, I'd better go. It's time to turn on another sprinkler.
