2004-05-04 - 9:16 a.m. I woke up this morning way before daylight. The weather service had said it would be near 40 degrees in Atlanta this morning and we are usually quite a bit cooler here. I left a thermometer out in the garden and when I picked it up this morning in the dark it read 37 degrees, not good. The temperature continued to edge down till it bottomed out at around 36 degrees. All morning I walked around the garden and checked to see if frost was forming on the plants. The winds had died down and dew was settling on the plants, perfect conditions for a frost. Frost began to form on some of the mulch hay around the plants but none ever formed on the plants but it came close. A few degrees colder and I would of had to start putting water on the plants and keep it up till the temperatures went up. I'm so glad I didn't have to do that. That has to be one of the coldest jobs there is. You get wet all over and get cold through and through. We almost never get a frost in May but it can happen. I'll be glad to see the warm up they predict later in the week and I hope we've seen the last of the cold weather.
