2004-05-19 - 8:56 a.m. Well, we didn't have to break out the irrigation equipment yet. The weather turned rainy and we've had showers around most every afternoon. Elizabeth has sure had a time with the new pups. One of her females, Molly, got mastitis in one of her nipples and had to go on antibiotics. The Vet told her to keep the pups off her so Liz and Sue had to bring up a goat and milk her twice a day to get milk for the pups. They feed them every 6 hours at 6:00AM, 12:00PM, 6:00PM, and 12:00AM. Having to do this on top of all their other work has been quite a task but the Pups are still alive and growing. I plowed out the sweet corn for the last time. It's got too tall to plow with the tractor any more and any further weeding will have to be done with a hoe or tiller. I never make much on sweet corn but I sure enjoy growing it. You can almost see it grow this time of year and every day it looks a half foot taller. The goats are having babies left and right and it's a good thing. The way milk prices are going up in the store We might start drinking goat milk. Sue pasteurized some on the stove and it tasted every bit as good as cows milk. I'm looking on ebay for a pasteurizer and with milk pushing $4.00 a gallon here in the store and us drinking 2 gallons a week I believe it will be worth it.
