Boy!! it sure has been a while since I added an entry. We've been so busy this summer I've hardly had time to breath. The summer started off looking good but then we hit June and for 4 weeks we hardly saw the sun. It was overcast and drizzle or rain almost every day. The sweet corn loved it and we had one of our best sweet corn crops ever. The tomatoes were another story though. They didn't fair too well and the plants started to suffer after the second week of it.

July brought back some sunshine but we still had good rain amounts. The tomatoes started and when they did it was all I could do to keep them picked. I spent the better part of each morning for the whole month picking tomatoes. I've never seen our plants yield so many at once. They usually spread out the crop over several months but this year the bulk of the crop came in July.

The rains really helped the blackberries and blueberries and we had an excellent crop of both. The peppers didn't appreciate the cloudy weather and we still have not gotten many off of them but they are finally starting to get going here in September.

The cantaloupes were a bust because of the rain but the watermelons did fair. We were supposed to have a lot of yellow and zucchini squash this year but Sue and Becky got the seed mixed up somehow and we wound up with mostly spaghetti squash. It turned out to be a blessing because the yellow and zuchinni squash didn't fare very well but the spagehtti squash went wild and I'm bringing them in by the wheelbarrow load.

The apples did okay this year but I just don't sell that many so I'm probably going to cut down some more this winter. I'll keep quite a few, just not as many per variety. The figs were pretty much a bust. We got some but the rain ruined most.

This was the first year we had many Asian Pears for sale and they sold Great. I really like them and might plant more in the future.

The new hens have started to lay and we sell out of eggs most every day. It's still too early to tell but if it keeps going like now we will probably be in the egg buisiness from now on.

That brings me to the Muscadines that folks are still picking. They have done very well so far. They made it through hurricane Frances without too much damage and now we're waiting to see where hurricane Ivan goes. If we get a lot of rain the grapes can split and fall, so we'll have to wait and see.

Well, that pretty much brings you up to speed on what's been going on here at the farm. Perhaps I'll get more time to add entries now.
