Well, Hurricane Ivan has passed and left us 8 inches of rain and a ton of fallen limbs in its wake. The wind really tore up a pecan tree but no other major damage was done. It will be a few days before I can tell how much damage was done to the muscadines. After a heavy rain they can split open slightly and after 3 or so days they will start to fall and rot, hopefully it won't be too bad.

When milk prices shot up to near $4.00/gallon here Sue started to milk one of our nannies. That was back in the early summer and she is still milking twice a day and we get all the milk we need and extra to make cheese with. I've gotten where I'm quite fond of fetta cheese. We know of some folks who drink their goats milk raw but we pasteurize ours. The chance of getting a disease from raw milk is not great but it's high enough and the diseases are serious enough that I don't like to take the chance. Before anyone emails me about it, no, we don't sell goats milk. Unless you are an inspected dairy it's against the law and I agree with this.
