I plowed up some ground about 10 days ago while we had a brief spell of no rain for about 5 days. I had debated whether to do it or not since the ground was only marginally dry. It's one of those decisions you have to make on the spot, plow now and hope it's not too wet where you damage the ground or wait for a longer dry spell and hope it comes soon enough to get the tomatoes planted on time. The forecast was for rain that night so I decided to go ahead and plow. We got the ground worked up and the plastic mulch down by that evening. The ground was dry enough I don't believe we did any real damage.

As I write this I'm looking out the window at our second day in a row of heavy rain. Since we got the plastic down it has rained every two or three days so it looks like I made the right decision, at least this time. We planted our first group of tomato plants just before this round of rain moved in. Last year we planted them all at one time and I about killed myself picking them. This year we're going to stagger the planting in several stages like we used to do.
