Sunday is supposed to be my day off but I got up this morning early to go out and check the temperature. the forecast was for temps in the upper 30's and calm winds. That is a recipie for frost. If the air keeps moving with a breeze it stirs up the different air layers and the temp at ground level can't go so low and frost has more trouble forming. But, if the wind is calm the coldest air can settle near the ground and in low spots and even when the temp is above freezing at eye level it can be at freezing right at the ground and frost can form. It's dead calm outside right now but the thermometer reads 43, too warm for frost. Boy I'm glad the weather folks were wrong. We have a bunch of early planted tomatoes that would get hurt, if not killed, if it frosted. We rolled out hoses last evening so I could go to spraying the plants with water if frost started to form. I sure am happy it looks like I won't need to, that is one cold job and once you start you have to keep it up till the sun gets up and the temps rise well above freezing at ground level. I'm going to stay up and keep checking the temp, you never know.
