Did a lot of hoeing today. If you don't keep after the weeds they'll cover you up in no time. Ever since Adam caused the earth to be cursed, weeds have been a problem. "Thorns and thistles shall it bring forth to thee", was God's pronouncment of what Adam, and every tiller of the land since then, has to look forward to, a battle.
If you don't believe the Bible is correct just do this little experiment. Till a patch of ground, plant something, then don't tend it at all, just let it do it's own thing. Before long you can't see what you planted for the weeds.
You don't have to do a thing to get weeds to grow. Anyone can do it and it takes no effort at all. You don't have to prepare the ground just right and plant weed seeds at the proper depth. You don't have to keep them watered and fertilized. Diseases don't bother them much and if insects attack they seem to overcome them and bounce back. If God's not involved in that it's amazing.
I was at a farm meeting one time where a specialist was discussing new types of crops farmers could plant. After listening to the lecture for awhile one farmer stood up and said, "What I need you folks to do is come up with a use for pigweed. I always get a great stand even without planting any seed, nothing bothers it, it doesen't seem to need any fertilizer and I can grow three crops of it in one summer." Yep, weeds are here to stay. It goes to show you that what God says stands, no matter what men think.
